vic here, a regular commentator at MLQ and Ellen and (naykika) at pcij. just got into your site and I hope that I can somehow impart the beauty of Democracy as we the voters can make it. I'm a dreamer and one of them is to see the country where I spent the first 2 decades and half of my life will someday enjoy a "truly" democratic society as I have enjoyed the later 3 decades of my life.
and it starts with a free and clean election.. thank you

welcome vic! yep, I see your handle at MLQ3's blog often. You live in Canada now, I'm guessing. If so, I think our fellow voters will learn alot from you about how a good election system works. I met Jean-Pierre Kingsley earlier this year, and he seemed like a good man. It's amazing that he's a one-man COMELEC there! Please, please, please, tell us how Canadian elections work! Do you find this valuable?

Yes, I live and work here for the past 3o + now. I'm glad you mentioned JP Kingsley right off, because, he's the very first person I'm planning to introduce to the voters. If you look up his bio, you'll find that he's just your average Canadian, brilliant, but that is not why he was appointed to be our Chief Electoral Officer (a one man show, indeed) but for his impartiality and his unquestionable integrity. He's been around for quite a few years now, because as the law provides a Chief's term is from the time of Appointment up to age of Retirement (as specified by law). And since he was appointed by Parliament, he can only be removed by Parliament for cause. But all my years, as an active participant and a card -carrying member of Conservative Party of Canada, I had never, ever heard any controversy or any issue regarding any officer of Election Canada (=comelec). He was instrumental of Full Automation of our Election counting, with the same traditional voting system for the people that we never even noticed the "High Tech" transformation, that in a matter of an hour after polls are closed, we can go to bed or celebrate for our Party or Candidates.

And the ballots are still in the box, in case there will be an automatic recount, or some protest, or suspicion of irregularities. An automatic recount is done when the lead is too close to call as per guidelines and the election returning officer may decide to count the ballots manually.

As for Jean-Pierre, the only time we hear from him or we hear about him if he has something new to announce or he is about to conduct an investigation about matters regarding the affairs of Election Canada. For now, we start with the man himself.

I'll be posting in summary form the politican sytem and the party system of government under the parliamentary form and federalism in my future comments. thanks for the oppurtunity..
